What the health?

Well here we go again! The debate over health care, the flu season, commercials with these jokers pushing drugs on everyone. When does it all stop? I can honestly say over the last decade health care has gone down the toilet. Everyone puts on a good front about being taken care of, but in all honestly that the last thing that's getting done. This is especially true if you live in MD,NY,NJ, and RI. In these states our beloved law makers decided that you have no say in your personal wellbeing. What do I mean by this? Let me explain. If you’re like me, you like to have some control over your destiny. When I got sick some years ago, I went through doctor after doctor trying to find out what was wrong with me. After going through all their mindless testing, the best answer I could get was that all my issues were basically made up, like I’m some liar looking for attention. This always struck me as being strange. Why would I not want to be at the top of my game being a super fit elite athlete? Getting frustrated with the system, I wanted to take matters into my own hands. If the physicians I was going to see didn’t want to run the lab tests that I desire, I’ll do it myself out of pocket. While this may sound reckless, it’s not. There are many resources for people like myself to do just that. Many of these tests are even advertised on regular TV! Perfect, I’m in luck right? Wrong! If you live in any of the above four states mentioned, you are out of luck. The only way any of these tests can be done is if they are ordered by a licensed physician. You know, the same physicians that think I’m a liar in the first place. Chalk this one up for the pill pushers.

Now let’s fast forward a bit to the insurance companies. To paint the picture, the doctor I started using is based out of my state. I pay this doctor out of my own pocket for his services, with no insurance company involvement. He is a highly rated licensed physician who obviously orders lab work to do his job. I make sure I go to an in network lab that is approved by my coverage just as they ask, which shouldn’t be an issue right? Wrong again! My insurance doesn’t want to pay for the lab work he orders for me! After speaking to a rep on the phone, they said it would only be covered if I went out of state to his state to have my lab work done! Good thing I signed up for the plan that covers out of network health care. God help us all…
